While it is rumored that the field at Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, will not withstand the rigors of an NFL game, the league insists it is fine.
NFL field director Nick Pappas told reporters in Brazil today that there is “no cause for concern.” Pappas said he examined the playing surface with an independent expert and a representative from the NFL Players Association and there were no safety concerns.
“We have an independent inspector who comes, walks with me, walks with a member of the NFLPA,” Pappas said. “They were here yesterday. They did this test. Things are checking out. We’ve made some additional improvements to the area that we think are helpful.”
The game, which is considered a Cowboys home game, will begin on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
