NFLPA calls for ‘full investigation’ into Jalen Hurts situation
The NFL Players Association brought up the story that the NFL and the Eagles would very much like to see go away.
The NFLPA released a statement Tuesday evening calling for an investigation into the handling of the Jalen Hurts situation, which resulted in the player traveling to London with a blood clot in his leg, playing with a blood clot in his leg and returning to Philadelphia with a blood clot in his leg.
“The NFLPA is not aware of any investigation by the NFL into the medical care provided to Jalen Hurts,” the union said. “In fact, the league had previously informed the union that it did not intend to review the care he received. Before drawing any conclusions about how this situation was handled, there must be a thorough investigation into what happened. Determining the facts is essential to ensuring that players receive the highest level of care and protection in the future.”
Given that NFL investigations into the proper implementation of concussion protocol typically take a few weeks, it is odd (to say the least) that the NFL so quickly concluded that Hurts’ situation “was handled appropriately” by the team.
Everything about this situation speaks to a desire to close the book and move on, and to question or criticize anyone who raises fair and appropriate questions.
Fortunately, the NFLPA is now among those asking the same questions.
