Nick Caserio: Marvin Harrison Jr. trade finalized Friday
Yes, the trade that sent wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. from the Cardinals to the Texans was fully in place before Sunday. Turns out it was fully in place before Saturday.
Via Cole Thompson of The United States todayTexans general manager Nick Caserio said during an appearance on 95.7 The Fan in Houston that the the exchange was finalized Friday evening. Caserio said the Cardinals wanted to wait until Sunday to announce it.
More importantly, Caserio pushed back on the theory that the deal was contingent on the Texans beating the Titans on Sunday.
“What happened during the match had no bearing on the outcome,” Caserio said. “We’re not going to agree on something and then see what happens in a game and then walk away from it.”
Caserio’s comments make first half report from the ESPNFL even weirder. It’s possible, even likely, that the people who reported the Cardinals would trade Harrison but didn’t identify the destination knew full well where Harrison was going, but agreed not to name the Texans as part of the negotiation that often occurs when, coincidentally, #insiders trade their discretion for future considerations.
It didn’t take much effort (which qualified me for this assignment) to get to the bottom of the question of where Harrison was traded.
Bottom line? According to Caserio, the deal was reached Friday evening. On Saturday morning, only part of the story was reported as part of the first news announcing the end of Harrison’s stay in Arizona. It made no sense at the time, and it makes even less sense today.
