No. 1 Georgia Upset by Auburn on Late FG, Box Score, Player Stats, Highlights and Predictions from AP Poll

No. 1 Georgia suffered a surprise 27-24 loss to Auburn in Saturday’s SEC clash.

Auburn kicker Alex McPherson kicked a 34-yard field goal to give the Tigers a surprising victory as time expired in the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs suffered their first loss of the season, falling to 6-1.

With a loss to an Auburn team that entered the competition with a 3-2 record and a 1-2 mark in SEC play, Georgia is expected to fall in the upcoming AP Top 25 poll.

After Texas was upset by unranked Oklahoma on October 10, the Longhorns fell from No. 1 to No. 7. It’s not hard to imagine the Bulldogs experiencing a similar fall.

Head coach Kirby Smart’s team started strong on Saturday, holding a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Auburn finally tied the score midway through the second, as Tigers receiver Chas Nimrod made an incredible grab in the end zone.

The Bulldogs tried to take the lead again on their next drive, but missed a field goal.

Auburn finally took its first lead of the game on the team’s next possession, as McPherson connected on a 49-yard field goal.

The Tigers led 17-14 at halftime.

Auburn took a two-point lead to open the second half, starting the third quarter with a 76-yard drive that ended with a touchdown by quarterback Byrum Brown.

Georgia, however, narrowed the gap to seven points early in the fourth quarter with a field goal.

After both teams traded punts, the Bulldogs went on a long touchdown drive of their own. Georgia drove 96 yards as Gunner Stockton connected with London Humphreys for a short score.

The Bulldogs defense forced another Auburn punt, although Stockton fumbled the ball while attempting to lead his team on a game-winning drive.

The Tigers took advantage of the opportunity to drive to the Georgia 16-yard line before McPherson’s kick sealed the final result.

The Bulldogs finished with 440 total yards, but Stockton’s three turnovers were costly and ultimately kept his team from going undefeated.
