Nobody Wants This Designer Erin Foster Over Adam Brody Palestine Support
“Nobody Wants That” creator Erin Foster responded to Adam Brody’s support for Palestine by saying, “I don’t agree with him, and that’s okay. »
Speaking on an upcoming episode of the “Not Skinny but Not Fat” podcast hosted by Amanda Hirsch (via Entertainment Weekly), Foster was asked to respond to Brody’s recent interview with GQ in which he said he “put me down for wanting a free Palestine.” Brody stars alongside Kristen Bell in “Nobody Wants This,” which follows a rabbi who falls in love with a girl who isn’t Jewish.
“You know, it’s complicated,” Foster said of Brody’s comments. “I think our work environment, our work environment is very similar to dinner tables around the world where people debate and discuss and disagree. And, you know, as much as I like Adam, I don’t agree with him either, and that’s okay.”
Brody, who grew up in a Jewish family but had previously declared Variety he’s ‘not religious’, faced backlash from fans of the show after his statement. Foster, who based “Nobody Wants That” on her own experience converting to Judaism before marrying her husband, said she wanted “our Jewish fans to know that I see you, I hear you and I understand how you feel.”
“The show has always been and always will be a love letter to Judaism. That’s why I did this show,” she said. “It’s because of the beauty of the experience that I had becoming Jewish and being a Jewish person. And sitting here right now, in this time in the world where there is almost no positive representation of Jewish people, I think it’s so important to have that.”
However, Foster added that “everyone is entitled to a different opinion”, adding: “I can just tell you why I created this series and what the intention of the series is.”
In his interview with GQ, Brody said he has discussed the Israel-Gaza conflict “a lot” in his personal life, but has not spoken about it publicly before because it doesn’t tend to come up.
“I just answer the questions I get,” he said. “And that’s true. I don’t wear a pin, so I don’t ask questions, and maybe I should. I really admire people who do. But 99 percent of what I get asked is about the show. I’m not trying to plead ignorance – we’re doing a political interview here, so it makes sense that we’re getting into that territory – but I’ve never dodged a question, really, not a political question anyway.”
He then made his position on the issue clear, saying: “Describe me as thinking this is genocide. Describe me as wanting a free Palestine. It’s horrible that it took so much death and misery, but I feel like we’re reaching a breaking point that should have been reached some time ago.”
Season 3 of “Nobody Wants That” is now streaming on Netflix.
