Nobody Wants This Designer Says She Disagrees With Adam Brody’s ‘Free Palestine’ Comments | American television
The creator of the hit Netflix comedy Nobody Wants This has responded to star Adam Brody’s recent support for Palestine amid the war between Israel and Gaza.
“Everyone is entitled to a different opinion,” Erin Foster said in an interview with the Not Skinny Not Fat podcast, when asked about Brody’s call for a free Palestine.
“You know, it’s complicated,” said Foster, who also has an acting role in the new season. “I think our work environment, our set is very similar to dinner tables around the world where people debate and discuss and disagree.
“As much as I like Adam, I don’t agree with him either. And that’s okay.”
Nobody Wants This, which returns for its third season this week, tells the unexpected love story between agnostic podcast host Joanne Williams (Kristen Bell) and Rabbi Noah Roklov (Brody).
The story was inspired by Foster’s own real-life love story following her conversion to Judaism after meeting her husband.
“As the creator of the show, all I can say is that I want our Jewish fans to know that I see you, I hear you and I understand how you feel,” Foster said. “The show has always been and always will be a love letter to Judaism. That’s why I did this show. It’s because of the beauty of the experience I had becoming Jewish and being a Jewish person.
“Sitting here right now in the world where there is almost no positive representation of Jewish people, I think it’s so important to have this. »
Last month, Brody spoke about his political views for the first time. “Describe me as thinking it’s genocide. Describe me as wanting a free Palestine,” he told GQ. “It’s horrible that it took so much death and misery, but I feel like we’re reaching a breaking point that should have been reached some time ago.”
Nobody Wants season three sees Joanne and Noah move in together while their siblings continue to look for love. In a four-star review, Jack Seale of the Guardian said the new episodes would make fans of the show “fall in love with the show all over again”.
Foster has often posted about the war between Israel and Gaza on social media.
“Nothing happening in Israel/Palestine is acceptable or comfortable to watch,” she wrote in 2021. “The innocent lives lost as victims of war, as well as the atrocious lack of human rights that exists under a Hamas-led government.
“There is a chance for peace here, and that involves a two-state resolution where both would coexist, respecting each other’s beliefs and sharing the holy land that all three major religions call sacred. Palestinians deserve to live in peace without fear. So do Jews.”
An independent UN investigation found in June that Israel continues to commit genocide by targeting children in Gaza.
The Guardian has contacted representatives of Foster, Netflix and Brody for comment.
