
Nobu Malibu chef killed after 16-year-old driver crashes into car near popular restaurant on Pacific Coast Highway, deputies say
MALIBU, Calif. (KABC) — The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate a fatal crash on Pacific Coast Highway that left a chef at the popular Nobu Malibu restaurant dead.
The accident happened Saturday near the restaurant shortly before 7 a.m.
Ryo Uchimiya, 51, was sitting in his car, parked on the shoulder in the 22600 block of PCH, when a 16-year-old in a Range Rover crashed into the back of the car, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
Uchimiya was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash involved four vehicles in total, with Uchimiya’s vehicle being pushed into other unoccupied parked cars during the collision.
Video from the Citizen app shows the Range Rover crashed into the back of a sedan at the scene.
Investigators said they did not believe the 16-year-old was under the influence and no one was arrested. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
