Norris and Piastri under investigation for last lap crash in Singapore – RaceFans
Several drivers are under investigation for incidents during the sprint race in Singapore, including McLaren teammates who collided on the final lap.
Lando Norris attempted to dive inside Oscar Piastri in turn five. The two men then followed the third-placed Ferrari of Charles Leclerc.
The McLarens made contact at the apex of the corner. The two spun and Piastri hit the barrier on the outside. Norris was able to continue and finish in eighth place.
“Sorry about that,” Norris told his team over the radio. “Obviously I didn’t want it to happen, but I thought I was completely wide. I just ran out of space at the top, but I was there.”
Afterward, Norris defended his decision to attempt the pass where he did, insisting it was a viable decision. “Of course,” he told Sky, “otherwise I wouldn’t have done it.”
Piastri played down the collision. “From where I am, it’s fourth and fifth for a sprint race, so it doesn’t bother me anyway,” he said. “Obviously the team has a lot of work to do now to repair both cars.”
Stewards are also investigating a collision between Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll and another collision between Alexander Albon, Gabriel Bortoleto and Valtteri Bottas. Arvid Lindblad is also under investigation for driving in the wrong direction after spinning during the safety period and Oliver Bearman is under investigation for driving unnecessarily slow.
