Nvidia’s latest GPU driver brings a new way to speed up PC games
Nvidia is rolling out a new GPU driver (621.01) today that enables Microsoft’s new Advanced Shader Delivery technology to speed up game launches. The technology also removes “just-in-time” shader compilation mid-game, reducing stuttering and CPU spikes.
Microsoft’s Advanced Shader Delivery works by offloading shader compilation for different hardware combinations to the cloud. “Using DirectX 12, Windows 11, and the Microsoft Agility SDK, developers capture shaders into a State Object Database (SODB), allowing Microsoft’s cloud network to precompile shaders for hundreds of thousands of hardware and driver combinations,” says Nvidia’s Andrew Burnes.
Gears of War: E-Day And Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 now both support Advanced Shader Delivery, provided you download the games through the Xbox PC app. “This system is storefront agnostic, meaning you benefit from it even when playing games purchased on Steam, as long as you have the Xbox PC app installed on your PC,” says Burnes.
Advanced Shader Delivery will allow you to skip the annoying shader compilation screen in Call of Dutyand this should improve the overall performance of supported games. “With a near 100% cache hit rate, it eliminates mid-game “just-in-time” shader compilation, erasing CPU spikes and frame stutters in titles like Gears of War: E-DayAnd Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
You can download Nvidia’s latest 621.01 update here, and Advanced Shader Delivery is also supported on AMD GPUs with Adrenalin 26.6.1 or higher and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 series with driver version 2026.08.3 or higher.
