A 63-year-old woman was found dead in Central Park on Sunday morning with head trauma, according to the New York Police Department.
Police said they responded to a 911 call about an unconscious person in the area of the park near East Drive and East 74th Street around 9:43 a.m. When EMS arrived, they pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
Later Sunday evening, police arrested Jonathan Robles, 36, and charged him with murder and criminal possession of a weapon. Records show Robles resides at a homeless shelter near Hudson Yards.
An investigation into the incident is underway. The NYPD has not yet explained how exactly the woman was killed. His identity has not been released pending notification of his family.
