Riehle’s acclaimed career spanned decades and he appeared in over 400 projects.
He was best known for his role as hilarious product manager Tom in the cult film “Office Space.”

Additionally, the actor has had roles in hits like “Bridesmaids” and TV series such as “The Mindy Project,” “George Lopez” and “The Neighbors.”
He has won numerous awards at various international film festivals for his work, including the Los Angeles Film Award for “Best Supporting Actor” for his role in the 2017 film “You Have a Nice Flight.”
Most recently, he played Nicolas Young in the 2024 Hallmark movie “Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story,” loosely based on the romance of Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift.
Riehle was born in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, in 1948. He attended the University of Notre Dame before receiving his MFA from the University of Minnesota, according to Entertainment Weekly.
He began his career in regional theater, then made his screen debut in “Rooster Cogburn,” a 1975 western starring John Wayne and Katharine Hepburn.
He played an uncredited role in the film.
Riehle married Jane Latham in 1970 and they welcomed four children.
The actor opened up about his love of acting during a 2012 interview with Notre Dame Magazine.
“I always wanted a role that would bring something out of me, that would force me to find something more,” he said. “The leading role is not always the best role in a play or film.”
During the interview, he shared that being part of the cast of the 1989 Civil War film “Glory” was the “highlight” of his career.
“It was the most touching script I have ever read,” Riehle said.
“I haven’t done a lot of scenes with Denzel Washington or Morgan Freeman… but being a part of that cast was a highlight of my career,” he explained.
Riehle also spoke about her passion for roles in independent films.
“As I get older, the roles may not be as much in large projects, but I will always look for ways to work and maybe even help change the company. When I work, I feel good. That should never stop,” he said.
The actor was last photographed publicly in November 2024.
