Olivier Martinez walks out of court and insults Halle Berry during custody war
Olivier Martinez apparently needed a time out during his bitter custody battle with Halle Berry. The French actor reportedly stormed out of a Los Angeles courtroom on Tuesday, Oct. 20, and engaged in a profanity-laced exchange with his lawyer as testimony continued in the former couple’s increasingly contentious legal fight over their 13-year-old son, Maceo.
According to Page sixMartinez, 60, appeared visibly agitated as he left Los Angeles County Superior Court alongside attorney Patrick Baghdaserians. Witnesses reportedly heard the actor swearing during a heated discussion about the testimony before the two men headed to the bathroom. They returned about five minutes later.
It’s unclear exactly what Martinez said or whether he directed the profanity to his attorney.
The reported outburst came as Berry, also 60, spoke behind closed doors to address allegations that she physically abused Maceo. Jon Hay, a staff member at the school for teenagers, had previously raised concerns about his behavior.
And the legal confrontation between the former couple is far from over.
Martinez is scheduled to testify, while Berry’s 18-year-old daughter, Nahla Aubry, is expected to testify later this week.
The latest drama follows the Oct. 19 hearing, when Maceo testified for nearly four hours about allegations involving his mother. Judge Shelley Kaufman cleared the courtroom for the teen’s appearance and kept his testimony sealed.
The atmosphere outside these closed-door debates was not much friendlier. Page six called the hearing “frosty,” reporting that Berry and Martinez exchanged hostile glances while keeping their distance.
The legal battle stems from Martinez’s allegations that Berry choked Maceo during a Sept. 26 confrontation involving a virtual reality headset. Martinez claims Berry became physically aggressive with their son while her fiancé, musician Van Hunt, was present.
He then obtained a temporary restraining order and requested sole legal and physical custody of Maceo, which resulted in restrictions on Berry’s contact with the teen.
Berry categorically denied abusing her son. His lawyer, Marina Beck, called Martinez’s accusations “totally unfounded and deliberately misleading.”
The Oscar winner maintains that the confrontation involved violence and not aggression. She also accused Martinez of interfering with Maceo’s educational and therapeutic needs and trying to turn their son against her.
Berry is seeking to have the temporary restrictions lifted and his previous 50-50 custody agreement reinstated.
