Oregon quarterback Dante Moore will not return this season following concussion
Oregon quarterback Dante Moore, who entered the season as one of the top prospects in the 2027 draft, will not play again during the 2026 season.
Coach Dan Lanning announced Monday that Moore’s concussion from last month will sideline him for the rest of the schedule.
“If it was up to Dante, he would play for the guys,” Lanning said. “It’s not a selfish decision on Dante’s part, saying, ‘I don’t want to come back, the season isn’t shaping up the way I want it to.’ That’s not at all what it’s about.
Lanning said Moore has not been cleared to return from the concussion suffered Sept. 26 against USC. After receiving an illegal hit while sliding, Moore was taken to a local hospital by ambulance for evaluation.
“We said before that this was a serious deal that he would be able to recover from 100%, that hasn’t changed,” Lanning said. “But him being on the field for us, that’s not going to happen. We would love to have Dante there, he will always be an important part of this team.”
The Ducks started the season ranked second. They are now 4-3 and outside the top 25.
Under the NCAA’s new five-year rule, Moore can return to college football in 2027, delaying his entry into the draft until 2028.
