EL PASO, TEXAS — Oregon State’s dominant victory over UTEP was expected. The Beavers won 33-7.
No, it wasn’t surprising. What may be is that the Beavers, now 2-2, enter Pac-12 play as legitimate contenders.

- UTEP gets a conversion then stops. Punt to OSU 26.

- JaMarcus Shephard loses it on the radio at halftime. “We had too many penalties! It’s ridiculous! It’s ridiculous! We ran them down the field on that last drive. I hate 15-yard penalties! We’re not going to be that team!”
- Takari Hickle called unsportsmanlike conduct, giving UTEP its second first down via penalty. UTEP wins its first organic first down via run. Another 15 yards on a high pass tackle from Tevita Pome’e. Gyrice Goodman’s sack of EJ Colson Jr. ends the half as UTEP can’t stop the clock.
- AJ Newberry runs for 35 yards. Eric Olsen gains 40 yards. Drive stalls and OSU settles for a 35-yard field goal by Caleb Ojeda. Oregon State 20, UTEP 0 – 2:20
- UTEP comes in third-and-2 and Oregon State is under pressure for a tackle in a loss. UTEP timeout (6:04) and punt.
- AJ Newberry runs 25 yards, then a few missed throws set up third-and-10 at the UTEP 38 and Oregon State calls a timeout (8:53). A five-yard pass to Eric Olsen and OSU lines up to move on fourth down and UTEP calls a timeout (8:20). Turnover down.
- Kai Wheaton enters. UTEP wins its first try via an offside penalty on Sai Vadrawale III on a third try. UTEP returns it in the event of a drop. The Beavers gained five yards after the interception and subsequent drive.
- Braden Atkinson throws double coverage and is intercepted by Kaleb Miles at midfield.

- Three straight first passes to Braden Atkinson and UTEP calls a timeout (8:38). The Miners have no way of competing with Eric Olsen. Incompletion of third and nine. Caleb Ojeda’s 37-yard field goal is good. Oregon State 10, UTEP 0 – 7:22
- Isaiah Houi and Logan Knapp start. Takari Hickle’s sack on P&10 effectively derailed the entire three-way possession for UTEP, who fell back.
- A 12-yard touchdown run from AJ Newberry easily caps a seven-play, 75-yard drive. A few passes from Braden Atkinson to Aaron Butler for 26 yards. An unusual play that appeared to be intentional with Atkinson rotating for a handoff to Butler. Oregon State 7, UTEP 0 – 12:23
