Two big-name stars in the NFL have been placed on the commissioner’s exempt list on Sunday.

The Green Bay Packers have placed running back Josh Jacobs on the list three days after he was charged with two misdemeanors stemming from an alleged incident with a woman in May. Jacobs will not be part of the Packers’ 53-man active roster and cannot practice or attend games. He will be allowed to work out, attend meetings, and receive medical treatment at the facility. The NFL is still reviewing Jacobs’ case.

In another move on Sunday, the Denver Broncos have placed linebacker Jonathan Cooper on the commissioner’s exempt list. Cooper is expected to appear in court Monday for arraignment on domestic violence charges. Cooper, like Jacobs, will also not count toward the 53-man active roster, but will be permitted to attend individual workouts and meetings and can seek medical treatment.

What exactly is it? The commissioner’s exempt list is designed to remove a player from participation in games and practices while potential violations of the NFL’s personal conduct policy are being reviewed.
