Packers place RB Chris Brooks on injured reserve
The Green Bay Packers announced Saturday that they have placed running back Chris Brooks, who led the backfield this season until his ankle injury, on injured reserve. The Packers have already replaced his position on the team with the addition of Pierre Strong Jr., who was signed from the practice squad earlier this week. Moving forward, the team’s running back rotation will include Strong, MarShawn Lloyd and Kaleb Johnson, at least until Josh Jacobs finishes serving his term on the commissioners’ exempt list/suspension list. So far, the NFL has yet to remove Jacobs from the exempt list, as it is still deciding whether or not to suspend Jacobs and for how long.
With Brooks on IR, he will miss at least the next four games on the Packers’ schedule. The first game Brooks can be reactivated to the 53-man roster for will be Week 9 against the New England Patriots.
Green Bay has not made a corresponding roster move, and they currently have one open spot on the 53-man roster. Notably, the team began training wide receiver Savion Williams, who is designated to return from injured reserve, this week. It’s possible the Packers’ next move for their active roster is to bring in Williams in Week 6.
