Panicked 911 calls reveal moments after University of Georgia student plunged from 8th floor window

Panicked calls to 911 revealed the moments after a University of Georgia student accidentally plunged from her 8th floor apartment and miraculously survived.

Kristin Sargent, 21, was rushed to intensive care after falling from a window while dancing on a couch and onto the pool deck of her apartment building in Athens, Georgia, shortly after 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

“We were dancing and she fell out the window,” her worried friend told a dispatcher in a 911 call obtained by The Post. “She’s not moving.”

The friend told the dispatcher they had been drinking, but added, “It was nothing extreme at all, we were all fully aware.” »

Another resident of the Rambler Athens building, in the heart of the famous college town, said in another 911 call that he saw the fall from his 5th floor bedroom.

“I just saw someone fall out of an eighth-story window and land on the grass by the pool,” he said. “At least it looks like they’re unconscious.”

“We heard a noise and looked outside and, yeah, it doesn’t look good.”

The lucky blonde, a finance and marketing major at UGA, admitted she “can’t believe” she’s alive, her father, Richard Sargent, told Channel 2 Action News.

“She’s a good fighter, and so everything will be fine for her,” he said.

He did not say what caused the horrific fall — which reportedly left the victim with several broken bones — but said it happened after the Georgia Bulldogs beat the Oklahoma Sooners 41-13 on Saturday.

“The University of Georgia just won a football game,” the father said. “I bet there were a lot of 21-year-olds here who were super happy.”

Police were dispatched to the building around 7:37 p.m., according to a report obtained by The Post.

“I arrived and spoke with bystanders who indicated that the female victim had danced on a couch or air mattress that was near an open window and had apparently fallen through the screen and onto the floor,” responding officer Erik Ellison wrote.

“When I arrived, the victim was on the ground near the swimming pool, which in this complex is in a courtyard on the second floor of the building.

“It appears from the scene that the victim had hit a metal bench when he fell, as the cushion of the bench was covered in blood and the armrest of the bench had broken.”

Sargent and other witnesses were interviewed at the hospital and all information gathered suggests it was an accident, Ellison said.

Forensic doctors also examined the scene and the investigation was still ongoing at the time of writing the report, he said.

“At this time it appears the victim will survive,” Ellison wrote.

Witnesses reportedly said a deck chair may have helped break Sargent’s fall before she hit the ground.

The Rambler Athens building sent a message reminding residents that the complex’s windows are equipped with safety limiters and warning them not to “tamper, remove or disengage” the devices, Channel 2 reported.

However, authorities have not said whether the window from which Kristin Sargent fell had a safety limiter activated or whether it played a role in the incident.

The student’s father said the family rushed to Georgia from their home in Virginia after someone called them and said, “Oh my God, Kristin had a bad fall.” »

Rambler management said in its message to residents that it was cooperating with investigators.

A representative for Rambler Athens told the Post on Tuesday: “Our thoughts are with our resident and we wish a speedy recovery.

“We continue to gather information and review the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
