National Republicans spent months trying to save Ken Paxton. It complicates this effort.

Tensions rise with some Republicans after POLITICO publication Paxton closed-door comments that “DC” Republicans were largely controlling his race.

“He can raise his own money and say whatever he wants,” said a Republican involved in the Paxton rescue effort, who, like others in this article, was granted anonymity to speak candidly. “Actually, if he did that, he’d probably be winning by now and we wouldn’t need to spend all this money.”

“It looks like Paxton preparing to blame others for what could be one of the most embarrassing defeats in modern political history,” said Carlos Curbeloa former GOP representative from Florida.
