Pedestrian struck and killed by vehicle allegedly running a green light in downtown Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A woman was killed Wednesday morning after being struck by a vehicle.

It happened just after 6:30 a.m. at 19th and Lombard streets in Center City Philadelphia.

According to a witness, the woman was crossing west street on Lombard when she was struck, specifying that the driver had the green light.

Police said the woman was able to be evacuated after being pinned under the vehicle, but was later pronounced dead.

A man was sitting nearby on his break and heard the impact. He called 911.

“I don’t think the guy was speeding,” Darrien Wiley said. “It was like a sad accident. That’s all.”

He said there was a bus that could have blocked his view of the oncoming vehicle.

“He had the right of way. He had the green light and she had the red light,” Wiley said. “She ran across the street and was hit.”

Action News contacted SEPTA, which said the woman was not on the bus, but the driver saw the accident and called it.

The incident remains under investigation.

The driver has not been charged.
