Pennsylvania woman stabbed her young son and husband to death at Great Wolf Lodge water park, police say
A woman killed her husband and 3-year-old son at a popular Pennsylvania water park before asking police to help her kill herself because she couldn’t “find the vein in her neck to stab her,” authorities said Tuesday.
Officers rushed to the Great Wolf Lodge at 3:13 p.m. Monday after a “female in distress” in room 2030 “informed the dispatcher that she needed help to commit suicide,” according to a news release from the Poconos Township Police Department.
That caller, Metallica Rose Harrison, a 27-year-old Towanda resident, told a dispatcher she wanted to kill herself but needed help “finding the vein in her neck to stab,” according to a criminal complaint written by Detective Earl Ackerman.
Charles Harrison “suffered multiple stab wounds to the chest” while a 3-year-old child, identified only as “TH,” was found dead with a “single stab wound to the chest,” according to Ackerman.
She was taken to the hospital, accompanied by police officers, who allegedly told them in the ambulance that “every day I work so hard” to “be the best person, the best mother, the best wife,” the complaint states.
“‘It wasn’t supposed to end like this. I was supposed to have my family happy. This is what I envisioned since I was a child,'” Ackerman’s statement quoted the suspect as saying.
Harrison also asked how deep she should slit her wrist for “next time,” the complaint states.
Investigators found a “large butcher’s kitchen knife” in the bathroom floor of Room 2030 and a “small knife” in the bathroom sink, the complaint states.
The family initially checked into Great Wolf on Sept. 21 and was scheduled to depart Tuesday.
The suspect allegedly told a dispatcher that police might find the bodies in their bedroom, with the complaint quoting her as saying that “my husband and son are already gone in the bed in the living room.”
“They’re already gone, I’m sorry,” she said, according to the affidavit.
Harrison was arrested on suspicion of two counts of homicide.
“This case is an isolated domestic tragedy and there is no threat to the community,” according to the police statement. “Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones affected by this tragedy.”
The popular water park and kid-friendly vacation destination is just over 100 miles north of downtown Philadelphia.
“We are deeply saddened and heartbroken by a tragic domestic incident that occurred yesterday in a guest room at our resort in the Pocono Mountains,” according to a statement from the Great Wold Lodge.
“This was an isolated domestic incident and we are fully cooperating with local law enforcement as they conduct their investigation. Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones of those involved.”
A judge on Tuesday ordered Harrison held without bail, and it was not immediately clear Wednesday whether she had hired or been appointed an attorney to speak on his behalf.
Messages left at public telephone numbers for the suspect and victim were not immediately returned Wednesday.
