People Sail on Carnival Just to Experience This Cruise Director
Carnival’s megaship Jubilee has a star on board, and it’s not the captain. THE The Wall Street Journal profiles Kyndall “Fire” Magyar, a 31-year-old cruise director whose fans book entire vacations just to sail with her. As onboard entertainer, hype woman and de facto mascot of the cruise, she is there from dawn to midnight, hosting game shows, hosting deck parties, making announcements and posing for 70 to 100 selfies a day. Magyar, who grew up on Carnival and now leads a 13-person “Fun Squad,” as well as nearly 300,000 followers on social media, sums up his job this way: “Make sure you like people and don’t like sleeping around. » “She rocked the boat,” one cruise passenger said recently of Magyar, noting that she flew her family from Florida to Texas just so they could sail with her.
The play follows Magyar through races in bad weather, adjustments to the football season schedule (Cowboys and Texans games can trump a boat party), quick costume changes between activities, and the compromise of months at sea away from her husband, who is also a Carnival cruise director. “Even a 7-year-old wants to interact with her,” says a woman whose grandson followed Magyar everywhere to inform him of all the new things he was trying, including chocolate ice cream, with her encouragement. The play examines how a charismatic ringmaster helps entertain, spend and return a floating city.
