Plane crashes in Florida, killing all 9 people on board
A Learjet 60 plane bound for the Bahamas crashed in Florida Sunday afternoon, killing all nine people on board, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said.
Duffy called the accident a “horrible tragedy,” in a social media post, adding: “Please join me in praying for the families and loved ones of those we have lost.”
It was not immediately clear whether there were any other injured people on the ground.
The flight, which departed from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was headed to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas, crashed near Cresthaven, Florida, around 12:50 p.m., the Federal Aviation Administration said.
The agency and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said a plane incident was under investigation in the Military Trail area and all northbound and southbound lanes were closed until further notice.
