There’s been a lot of talk about the potential end of the free-to-play MOBA Pokémon Unite since it was officially removed from the World Championships in July, and The Pokémon Company announced the end of the service today.

This will take place on March 23, 2027and applies “to both the Nintendo Switch version and the mobile device version” of the game. Here is the official “end of service” notice from the game’s website:

“Thank you for playing Pokémon UNITE. We regret to inform you that the service for Pokémon UNITE will end on Tuesday, March 23, 2027 at 00:00 UTC… We hope that you continue to enjoy Pokémon UNITE until the last day of the service.”

As part of this announcement, TPC is suspending sales of Aeos gemstones “effective immediately.” Remaining gems can still be used until the service ends. It has also suspended new purchases of Unite club memberships and automatic renewals.

Before the game’s service ends, there will be a “special event and update” for the game in November. This will allow players to obtain various items, including Unite and Holowear licenses. A new “Library” feature will also be added to the game. This feature will allow players to view certain recordings and content in the game. Here’s a little more on how it works:

“Even after the service ends, players who complete the required library data download before Tuesday, March 23, 2027 at 00:00 UTC will be able to use the Library feature to view certain in-game records and content. Players who have not completed the required download before the service ends will not be able to use the Library feature thereafter.

“After the service ends on Tuesday, March 23, 2027, players will no longer be able to log in to the game or participate in battles. Players who have completed the required library data download before the service ends will still be able to access the Library feature. Library data generally cannot be transferred when changing devices, and support for the Library feature will no longer be available after the service ends. Players can contact support with any issues before Tuesday, March 23 2027 at 00:00 UTC.”

You can read more details about Pokémon Unite’s end of service on the game’s official website. As noted above, the Aeos Crown 2027 Tokyo Competitive Crown will continue.

What do you think of this announcement? Do you still play Pokémon Unite? Let us know in the comments.
