For the moment, the trial is not moving forward; Guinea-Bissau authorities have not approved the trial. At a press conference last week, Health Minister Quinhin Nantote confirmed that the government had not yet authorized it.

“Any scientific research initiative involving human beings, especially children, ‌must comply strictly with applicable national legislation, international ethical principles and relevant evaluation and approval mechanisms,” Nantote said, according to Reuters.

In response to media reports that the trial would move forward, Nantote told the Guardian: “That’s not even remotely true. »

It now appears that Guinea-Bissau authorities have opened an investigation into the work of Aaby and Stabell Benn. In a post published Monday on Facebook, translated from Portuguese, the judicial police announced that they had carried out a “search operation in the facilities of the Bandim health project in Bissau, which resulted in the seizure of a batch of vaccines against hepatitis B intended for the vaccination of the country’s children”.

Police added that the operation “aimed to clarify the circumstances related to the said batch of vaccines.” The press release specifies that “the seizure constitutes an investigative procedure and does not, in itself, allow one to conclude that there are irregularities in the quality, safety or effectiveness of vaccines.”
