Policy. In the middle of a heatwave, Olivier Faure castigates Macron for “having fun on a jet ski” in Brégançon
“During the heatwave, when France is burning, when some of the French have not been able to go on vacation, the president has fun on a jet ski in Brégançon. Is that the message? It’s very successful,” wrote Mr. Faure in reaction to the front page of the weekly published the same day.
The Head of State is photographed there on a moving jet ski, in profile and gaze turned towards the lens, behind sunglasses, under the title “last summer in charge”. A visibly authorized photo, which recalls others taken during his previous summer stays in the presidential residence located on the Var coast – and which had already earned him criticism from his left-wing opponents. On the inside pages, an article specifies (among a few anonymous quotes from political advisors) that the president’s vacations are also punctuated by boxing, running and surf foiling.
Faure, however, says nothing about the other photo occupying a corner of the same front page of Paris Match, where Raphaël Glucksmann kisses his partner Léa Salamé in the waters of a Corsican beach. Prelude to another article on “the time of big decisions” for the star couple on vacation on the Isle of Beauty. The leader of the Place publique party must indeed confirm at the start of the school year whether he will indeed be a presidential candidate, in which case he would have to go through a primary to obtain the support of the PS – and perhaps face Olivier Faure on this occasion. If Mr. Glucksmann launched the race for the Elysée, Léa Salamé would then have to withdraw from the presentation of the 20H of France 2.
