Hurricanes Isaias affected travel plans across the country, including President Donald Trump. Trump originally planned to be in attendance when No. 2 Georgia played No. 6 Alabama at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday, but the Tuscaloosa Police Department told AL.com it canceled the trip due to the impending storm.
Trump has attended several Alabama football games throughout his tenure and is friends with legendary coach Nick Saban, who has expressed support for Trump regarding the Protect College Sports Act.
In 2018, Trump made the trip to Atlanta for the College Playoff National Championship, which the Crimson Tide won thanks to Tua Tagovailoa’s overtime. The following year, in 2019, Trump was at Bryant-Denny Stadium for the shootout between LSU and Alabama.
Although the weather may have ruined this trip, Trump was able to attend a small college football game in person this season. He was in Knoxville just two weeks ago when Texas defeated Tennessee, 20-17.
For now, Hurricanes Isaias shouldn’t change much about the game itself. The two teams are I plan to play Saturday night in Tuscaloosa as planned, but the SEC is monitoring the storm and the kickoff time could be changed slightly.
The storm is expected to bring locally heavy rain, potential flooding, strong winds and isolated tornadoes throughout the Southeast this weekend, although the exact path is still unknown.
According to both coaches, the teams are preparing for the game as normal because the weather is out of their control. Wet ball drills and mental preparation are all that can be done at the moment.
“Depending on the weather level, it would affect what happens,” Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer said, according to 247Sports. “It’s just…it’s not my area of expertise. I’m just preparing our football team. It hasn’t affected us much, other than we’re doing wet ball drills and involving the wet ball in some of our team reps, just like we did sometimes last week, preparing for the rain a week ago. I’m not really involved in much.”
