President Trump issues Iran ultimatum: sign peace deal or cease to exist
WASHINGTON (TNND) — Regarding the next steps in the war with Iran, a seemingly emboldened President Donald Trump is moving forward, issuing multiple threats this week.
The day before, in the Oval Office, he had declared: “We have to make this decision. We will blow them up. Find a deal. But the time is coming. This is going to end very soon one way or another.” (TNND)
On Thursday he said: “Now I have to make a decision. Either they will sign a very fair deal or they will no longer exist.”
The day before, in the Oval Office, he had declared: “We have to make this decision. We will blow them up. Find a deal. But the time is coming. This is going to end very soon one way or another.”
But the messages are mixed, with signs pointing to both a slowdown and an acceleration.
The U.S. military is reportedly sending about 9,000 additional troops to the Middle East, an expanded presence that includes a third aircraft carrier, the USS Theodore Roosevelt.
The president also links the alleged hijacking of the FlyDubai plane this week to Iran, although the evidence is so far scant.
Iranian state media also released a video suggesting the incident was planned after a recent visit by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the United Arab Emirates.
The video accuses Israel of what it calls a “false flag operation” aimed at pushing the United States back into the war against Iran.
At the same time, British authorities now say Iran was likely behind an alleged terrorist plot outside RAF Fairford, in which five men were arrested and later released on bail.
In an interview with Sky News on Wednesday, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said: “There are indeed strong indications that Iran played a role. This remains a complex and very serious police investigation. »
Iran’s foreign minister responded in an online message.
“Prime Minister Burnham said the UK government “can confirm our belief that Iran played a role” in the RAF Fairford incident.
I can confirm Iran’s belief that the release of so-called terrorists working for foreign states speaks volumes.
“You are barking up the wrong tree,” wrote Seyed Abbas Araghchi on X.
One of Iran’s main levers of pressure has been the crucial waterway, the Strait of Hormuz, which it has sought to control by threatening attack.
There are now signs that debt could disappear.
Crude oil exports from the Middle East have only just reached pre-war levels, industry analysts say.
Saudi Arabia and other major oil exporters are using new methods to transit through the strait or alternative pipelines and routes, while a new phase of the war may already be underway.
Trump continued to defend the United States’ role in the war.
In an article on Truth Social, he wrote:
I have repeatedly stated that it would take 4-6 weeks to get rid of the Iranian nuclear threat, and I did it overnight! The rest of the time it’s just to make sure it stays that way.
