In September, Cindy Crawford’s son, Presley Gerber, was found dead at a rehabilitation center after authorities responded to a “possible overdose.” At the time, Crawford and his family, including his daughter, Kaia Gerber, released a statement asking for “privacy during this very difficult and painful time.” They posted tributes to the late 27-year-old on Instagram on Sunday.
“We are heartbroken to lose our beloved son and brother,” Crawford wrote in the caption accompanying a black-and-white image of Presley. “We feel so lucky to have had Presley in our lives for 27 years. He is a gentle and beautiful soul who loved and is loved, now and forever. We are so proud of the way he showed himself in the world, with kindness and vulnerability.”
The message was signed by Crawford; her husband, Rande Gerber; and Kaia. The family shared that they are “grateful for the outpouring of love and support from so many people who know and love our family and even strangers who feel our pain.”
Kaia also shared her own message, in which she wrote, “How naive of me to believe that language could transcend grief. I’ve read every book and I don’t have any of the answers. My articulation cannot match the magnitude of your loss.”
“To say that loving you was the easiest thing in the world would imply that it required any amount of effort,” Kaia continued later in the post. “I was born loving you. I will die loving you. There was never anything else. I’m learning to love you when I can’t see you. How to tell you something without picking up my phone to call you. How to be your sister in a world in which I can’t reach you. I don’t know how to do that yet.”
“Even knowing where this ends, I would choose it again. Every second,” she added. “I would knowingly walk into this heartbreak if it meant that on the other side, I had to be your sister.”
