Prince Harry and Meghan Markle hold hands during a romantic pub date
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were spotted having lunch together at a pub in the Cotswolds.
The royal duo were pictured holding hands as they walked towards the Falkland Arms on Thursday. It’s the first time they’ve been seen together since their surprise return to the UK.
They were dressed casually for the outing, with Harry wearing a Santa Barbara Fire Department baseball cap, a nod to their American home in Montecito, California.
Inside the pub, which dates back to the 16th century, Markle, 45, ate gluten-free beer-battered haddock and chips with mushy peas and tartar sauce, while Harry, 42, ate chicken, ham and leek pie with seasonal vegetables, creamy mashed potatoes and gravy.
A pub insider told The Sun the couple were not treated differently by staff or other customers.
“Everyone here gets royal treatment, no matter who you are,” they shared. “We’re lucky to have a lot of different people visit us, and everyone is treated like a local. During their visit, Harry and Meghan simply behaved like locals.”
The move was not without some hiccups, mainly regarding the safety of their children.
Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, attended a posh $35,000-a-year prep school for just two days before security concerns surrounding their trip forced them to leave.
Harry and Markle faced more security concerns when the former “Suits” star’s home phone number was allegedly leaked after he joined a WhatsApp group for school parents.
Paparazzi scoured their new school, much to the dismay of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, calling their actions “extraordinarily reckless.”
“There is a world of difference between legitimate media activity and photographers walking the perimeter of a school, stopping to survey the grounds and checking in on children as they go about their day,” a Sussex spokesperson told Page Six in a statement earlier this week.
The spokesperson said it was “concerning” that European paparazzi “do not appear willing to respect the privacy of children at school”.
Last week, Harry confirmed that his children “are happy at school” in an interview with CTV.
“It’s been great to be back on British soil,” added the “Spare” author.
