PSA: The Witcher 3 Remastered File Size and Release Time Confirmed, Separate Purchase Required

The Witcher III: Wild Hunt – Remastered is just around the corner and will launch on Switch 2. September 29, 2026 (yes, it is tomorrow at the time of writing).

Many of you already own the original Switch version, so the good news is that this new version is completely free for you. However, unlike the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, which automatically upgrade the original game to the remastered version, you’ll need to download a completely separate product on Switch 2.

This probably won’t come as a huge surprise – that’s generally the norm for Switch these days – but if you downloaded the original game to your Switch 2 and are sitting around twiddling your thumbs waiting for it to update, hold your horses.

Simply head over to the Switch 2 eShop, locate the new remastered version, and you can download it at no extra cost. Pre-installations also began a few days ago, so if you do it now, the game will be fully downloaded, ready for release on the 29th. For those who own a physical copy of the original, a previous notice from CDPR customer support states that you will be able to claim your free upgrade on launch day.

“If you own a physical copy, don’t worry: you’ll be able to claim the free upgrade when Remastered launches on September 29.”

According to Marcin Momot, Director of Community and Social Media at CDPR, the download size is 50 GB, although looking at our pre-installed game, its actual size is a bit smaller at 48.5 GB.
