Public health officials remind Californians to get vaccinated against 3 viruses
(FOX40.COM) — The California Department of Public Health issued a reminder Thursday urging the public to get vaccinated against three viruses that pose higher infection risks during the holiday season.
Officials recommend that people at high risk of severe illness — or those seeking protection in general — get vaccines against flu, COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus, also known as RSV, which are now available and covered for most people at local pharmacies and health care providers.
Anyone six months and older or vulnerable to illness is encouraged to get a flu vaccine, CDPH said in a news release. The latest COVID vaccine is recommended for children 6 to 23 months, pregnant people, and adults 65 years or older. It has been recommended that infants and toddlers, adults 75 years of age or older, and pregnant people receive the RSV vaccine.
“As we approach the holiday season, one of the best gifts we can give ourselves and those around us is the protection that vaccination provides,” said Dr. Erica Pan, CDPH director and state public health officer. “Covid-19, influenza and RSV can cause serious illness, especially in infants, older adults and people with certain health conditions.”
A list of risk factors for each of the vaccines is available on the CDPH Public Health for All webpage.
The ministry said the vaccines can all be safely received at the same time. Vaccine appointments can be scheduled here or by contacting a local pharmacy or health care provider.
