Quenton Nelson trade: How it affects the Seahawks 2027 draft capital
The Seattle Seahawks made another major midseason trade under John Schneider, acquiring perennial Pro Bowl safety Quenton Nelson from the Indianapolis Colts. Pending a medical, the Seahawks will give up a third-round pick in 2027 and a fifth-round pick in 2028. Not bad for someone who has long been at the top of his position and still remains among the best guards in the NFL.
You’re probably wondering how this affects Seattle’s 2027 draft capital, because giving up a day one or two pick is one of those things that can worry a fan base, no matter who the trade is for. Well, I have some great news regarding the draft.

Only four native choices? Boo. But wait! This is where things get fun!

There’s actually a small chance that the Walker comp pick becomes a fourth-rounder, which we’ll explain at another time. Otherwise, there’s a reason John Schneider accumulated as many comp picks as possible during free agency. If Seattle wanted to make a trade or two at the deadline, they wouldn’t find themselves in a situation where they were entering a stronger draft class (on paper) with a lack of picks.
Seattle tentatively has 10 draft picks and still has skin in the game through seven rounds. Maybe they’re not done making any major changes to their roster with two weeks to go before the deadline, but the Seahawks have the best of both worlds: They’re well-stocked for April and they’re stocking up for their final Super Bowl push.
