R-Truth’s Injury Status Update After WWE SmackDown Match Ends Early
R-Truth scared WWE fans when his match against Damian Priest suddenly ended on SmackDown. The veteran wrestler appeared to suffer a legitimate injury during the Oct. 16 episode, forcing the referee to stop the match before it was scheduled to end. Now there is finally some encouraging news regarding his condition, even if he is not completely out of the woods yet.
According to Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer, Truth appears to be fine after the incident. However, he will still need to undergo an assessment next week before we have a clearer idea of his condition.
Alvarez shared the update on Twitter on October 18, explaining that he had no additional details on the injury.
“I have no further details other than Truth appears to be fine and will be evaluated next week. Good luck to him for a speedy recovery.”
The update comes after R-Truth was legitimately injured during his match against Damian Priest on Friday’s SmackDown. The scary moment occurred after Priest walked face-first into the ring post and Truth connected with a missile dropkick from the top rope. Truth landed awkwardly after executing the move, prompting the referee to check on him immediately.
Rather than allow the match to continue, the referee rang the bell and Priest was declared the winner. According to previous reports, the injury was legitimate and the match did not end as WWE had originally planned. Priest even brought a steel chair into the ring afterward before Fraxiom came to help Truth.
The match was supposed to be another chapter in the heated rivalry between the former tag team partners. Priest turned on R-Truth on the September 11 episode of SmackDown after failing to win the AAA World Tag Team Championships from the War Raiders.
The two previously reigned for 147 days as WWE Tag Team Champions before losing the titles to Talla Tonga and Tama Tonga on August 14. Things got even uglier when Priest attacked Truth at the WWE Performance Center on September 24, making it clear that their friendship was over.
Friday’s match was supposed to give Truth an opportunity for revenge, but the legitimate injury brought everything to an unexpected halt. The good news is that Truth appears to have avoided an immediately obvious serious setback. However, Alvarez’s update does not confirm that he is medically cleared, and it remains unclear exactly what he injured or if he will have to miss additional time.
For now, WWE fans can at least take comfort in the news that R-Truth appears to be doing well. After seeing his match end so suddenly, this is certainly better news than many expected. The real answers should come once he’s evaluated next week, and hopefully this doesn’t turn into another long absence from WWE television.
