Raphaël Glucksmann announces his candidacy for the 2027 presidential election
Guest, Sunday August 23, on the TF1 8 p.m. news, Raphaël Glucksmann announced his candidacy for the presidential election.
He assured that he would submit to the stage of the social democratic primary organized in October by the PS and his own party, Place publique.
“I am a candidate to take over France because you know, we all have a knot in our stomach when we look at what our nation is becoming and what it could become in the coming months,” declared the MEP who said he was “candidate to win”.
“I am not taking this decision lightly,” he declared. “If I am a candidate today, it is to raise France’s profile. Are we going to offer our country to the far right? I could not see myself shying away from such a choice,” he said, specifying that he would participate in the primary that the Socialist Party intends to organize in the fall. “If I win this primary, there will never again be an agreement with Jean-Luc Mélenchon. The only way for the left to win is to be clear,” insisted the MEP, who has long denounced the positions he considers pro-Putin of the rebellious leader, as well as his speeches flirting, according to him, with anti-Semitism.
The PS and Place publique must finalize in the coming days the modalities of this small primary, in particular the participation rate for non-members or the sponsorships required for candidates who must belong to the social-democratic arc.

The MEP, aged 46, would be favorite in this election in which several socialists – Ségolène Royal, deputies Philippe Brun and Jérôme Guedj… – wish to participate, while awaiting the possible candidacy of First Secretary Olivier Faure.
10% to 12% voting intentions
Raphaël Glucksmann had refused to participate in a broader primary which would have included the entire non-Melenchonist left, with François Ruffin, Clémentine Autain and even Marine Tondelier.
In the latest polls of voting intentions in the first round of the presidential election published in July, he is credited with 10% to 12% of voting intentions. In the 2024 European elections, he obtained 13.8% of the votes at the head of the PS-Place publique list.

His declaration of candidacy will come on the same day as Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s closing speech at the Insoumis summer university, thus symbolizing the duel on the left between the two men.
His candidacy will also have the immediate consequence of the withdrawal from the competing channel France 2 of his partner Léa Salamé, who presented the news and was initially due to resume on Monday. Jean-Baptiste Marteau, joker at the helm this summer, should replace her.
