Three defensive errors in the first inning gave Tampa Bay a 1-0 lead when Junior Caminero hit a fielder’s choice against starter Cam Schlittler. It was the fifth playoff game in Yankees franchise history with four or more errors.
New York tied the game in the fourth on a Ben Rice solo homer off Rays starter Freddy Peralta.
The Yankees loaded the bases in the top of the fifth, but Cody Bellinger flew out to the warning track against reliever Cam Booser to leave everyone stranded.

His two-homer game couldn’t rouse the rest of the lineup, and New York’s frustration peaked when Spencer Jones hit a ball that hit the podium at Tropicana Field for an out under “live game” rules, echoing Ty France’s roof hit at American Family Field on Saturday.
