Rays vs Brewers live updates, lineups, where to watch: Nick Martinez, Jacob Misiorowski open World Series as both teams seek first title
The 2026 World Series will be played among the No. 1 seeds in the American and National Leagues, as the Tampa Bay Rays and Milwaukee Brewers each seek the first championship in franchise history. Game 1 begins at 8 p.m. ET Friday at American Family Field in Milwaukee.
The Rays entered the playoffs with the best record in the American League and took a lot of momentum into the World Series after sweeping the New York Yankees in the ALDS and climbing out of a 2-1 hole to win three straight against the Cleveland Guardians in the ALCS.

Right-hander Nick Martinez (15-6, 3.10 ERA) gets the ball for the Rays in Game 1, making his third postseason start. He recently pitched in Game 4 of the ALCS, allowing two hits and one earned run in 5 1/3 innings.
The Brewers are 7-1 in the postseason, having swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in the David-and-Goliath NLCS finale.
Milwaukee will counter with right-handed ace Jacob Misiorowski (16-5, 1.80 ERA), who is making his third postseason start. In 8 1/3 innings over his first two starts, Misiorowski allowed 9 hits and 3 earned runs while striking out 11.

Steven Matz is now for the Rays, as both starting pitchers’ day ends after five innings.
Nick Martinez’s day: 5 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 0 walks and 5 strikeouts on 73 pitches. Fairly solid against a good defense, but his team is still playing from behind after this difficult first round.

The Rays are tied for the most stolen base attempts in MLB this season, but that trend has now ended back-to-back innings for them.

The Brewers end the top of the sixth on a hit-and-run double play, as Abner Uribe swings Chandler Simpson on a slider, then William Contreras catches Jonathan Aranda stealing second.
There are just nine outs remaining for the rested Brewers bullpen.

Jonathan Aranda hits a single against Uribe. He arrived at the base three times today.

Abner Uribe is on the mound to start the sixth for the Brewers, so that’s it for Jacob Misiorowski. The final line of his World Series debut: 5 innings, 4 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts on 78 pitches.
It’s his best start to the playoffs, but it’s still not quite what he was doing in the regular season.

Chourio goes to shortstop to end the fifth inning. We’ll see if that’s it for Nick Martinez on 73 pitches.

Wow, David Hamilton draws a line down the right field line and attempts a triple, only for Victor Mesa Jr. to find redemption with a perfect throw to Ben Williamson, who then downs Hamilton at third. Hamilton seemed to stumble a bit around second place and it cost him a lot of time.
Milwaukee could have had a runner on second with one out and topped the standings for a third time. Instead, it’s empty bases and two outs for Jackson Chourio.

As Nick Martinez starts the bottom of the fifth, Steven Matz and Kevin Kelly warm up in the Rays bullpen.

Taylor Walls shows up, then Victor Mesa Jr. tries to steal third. He is brought down by Brewers catcher William Contreras and this inning is over. It was quite a decision with Yandy Díaz at the plate.
Misiorowski is at 78 shots on five. With a rested bullpen ready, we’ll see if the Brewers want him out for the sixth and third time in the Rays’ order.

Jake Bauers makes a nifty play at first base to recover an errant throw from third baseman David Hamilton. This avoids a two-on, no-out situation for Milwaukee, but the Rays still have the tying run in scoring position with one out.
