BEST CHOICE
Rays vs. Yankees Prediction: Under 7.5

Play this at 57%.
The New York Yankees’ league-best 9.6% barrel rate meets a Tampa Bay Rays starter who makes you win it all. Nick Martinez walks just 3.6% of batters, putting him among the best in the league, and its hard-hit rate is in the 88th percentile. The Yankees can score because aspects of Martinez’s approach make him exploitable. But those metrics, coupled with the Yankees’ current offensive struggles, make it difficult to envision crooked numbers.
On the other side, Max Fried presents an even stronger contact matchup for the Rays. Her Removing the 99th percentile barrel attacks a Tampa Bay offense that already ranks last in barrel rate. The Rays’ contact approach becomes less threatening against a pitcher, allowing for an expected slugging percentage of .272.

Rays vs. Yankees Combo
that of Martinez Allowed zone contact rate of 89% gives New York an opening after back-to-back games against pitchers better equipped to miss at bats. I’m going to roll with the Yankees here. You pay a small fee considering the situation, but that’s to be expected. There’s probably no bigger home/away change in the playoffs than this series, either.
Ben Rice is the offensive team favorite because his production extends beyond chasing fastballs. He hit .486 against changeups this season, giving him an answer to Martinez’s better secondary pitching.

- Ben Rice on 1.5 hits + runs + RBI
Rays vs. Yankees Home Run Prediction: Luis Garcia
Martinez’s sinker gives Garcia a pitch he can drive. Garcia hit .576 against sinkers with a 51.3% hard hit rateand Martinez uses this pitch about a third of the time.
His season Barrel rate of 12.2% supports power, while Yankee Stadium rewards his ability to pick up an error to the right (a big reason they traded for him). Martinez attacks the zone and allows plenty of contact, giving Garcia opportunities to swing early. The sinker matchup is the strongest reason to target him, and Todd Cordell also supports Garcia in his Rays vs. Yankees props.
Rays vs. Yankees Player Prop: Max Fried Fewer than 4.5 strikeouts (54%)
Tampa Bay 18.8% withdrawal rate is a tough matchup for a pitcher whose whiff rate is in the 48th percentile. Fried can dominate contact without racking up punches, and several Rays hitters are capable of wasting his final pitches. Yandy Díaz is making contact on 88.7% of his swings inside the zone, while Chandler Simpson is at 93.2%.
Length is the biggest threat for this Under. Fried is rested enough to work deep, but an elimination game gives manager Aaron Boone a reason to step in quickly if traffic develops.
Rays vs. Yankees Weather
There will be clear skies and temperatures around 62 degrees for the first throwfalling around 60 later in the match. This provides comfortable conditions without too much heat-assisted transportation.
