Record turnout for early voting in South Carolina as elections close
GREENVILLE, South Carolina —
On Saturday, October 31, early voting officially ended at 6 p.m. Hundreds of thousands of voters have already voted, which represents a historic turnout rate.
The University of Florida Election Lab reports that South Carolina recorded just under 1 million early votes.
Greenville County Elections Director Patty Roach said that over the past six months, teams of election workers worked diligently on seven different elections to ensure there were no hiccups, with each election preceded by two weeks of early voting.
“Hundreds of people worked here and in early voting. We’re excited, but we’re tired. They did a great job,” Roach said.

The highest turnout was recorded on the first day, with more than 98,000 votes. The lowest amount was over 50,000. Compare that to the Friday before Halloween with 110,172 early votes. Election officials have high expectations for the final day of early voting. Roach said: “Yesterday we welcomed over 10,000 voters. We’re looking forward to a big day today.”
Use the map above to see how many early votes were cast in each state, including accepted absentee ballots and early votes. The data does not show election results, only the number of votes cast. In 31 states plus Washington, D.C., voters can register under a party affiliation. When this data is available, it is included in a state’s data. Not all states have allowed early voting.
If you didn’t get a chance to vote early during the midterm elections, you can still vote on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3.
