Redesigned MacBook Pro with OLED to feature ‘significantly lighter’ design: report

Apple’s major MacBook Pro redesign is fast approaching and is expected to begin in about a month. This will be the first MacBook with a touchscreen, as well as the first with Tandem OLED. Beyond that, the new MacBooks are expected to be “considerably” lighter than their predecessors, according to the latest issue of the Power On newsletter.
The newsletter reminds us that the new MacBook Pro is expected to debut “next month,” so we should see these new machines before the end of November. These machines are expected to feature the current M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, as Apple chose to ignore the high-end part of the M6 family in favor of accelerating the launch of the M7.
The new MacBook Pro will be much lighter
Despite the fact that these MacBooks have been rumored for a while, we don’t really know much about them other than the specs on paper: OLED, touch, Dynamic Island, etc. In the past, reports described the computer as thinner, but we haven’t really gotten a visual. That’s still not the case, but we have a major new detail on what this machine will look like:
The new MacBook Pros are lighter — significantly lighter. Apple redesigned the inside of the machine, miniaturizing parts and rearranging components to make the computer much easier to transport. The current 16-inch MacBook Pro weighs up to 4.8 pounds, compared to 3.3 pounds for the 15-inch MacBook Air, so any significant reduction would be immediately noticeable.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman doesn’t specify exactly how much lighter it will be, but if you’re using a current-generation MacBook Pro, especially the 16-inch, you may find that it’s heavier than you’d like. Apple is apparently working to improve this.
Beyond that, Gurman also mentions that there will be some changes in macOS Golden Gate to support touch and Dynamic Island, alongside the launch of macOS 27.2.
Are you excited for the launch of these new MacBook Pros? Are you going to buy one? Let us know in the comments.
