Retired SFPD couple believed to be among three killed in Marin shooting
San Francisco Police Department Chief Derrick Lew sent a department-wide email this evening announcing, “with a heavy heart,” the deaths of SFPD veterans Kevin and Ann Mannix, a married couple. Kevin served as a sergeant until 2018 and Ann retired as deputy chief of the department in 2021.
They appear to have been two of three victims of a triple shooting in Marin County earlier Sunday evening. The Mannix family owned a home on the same small street in unincorporated Mill Valley that was the scene of tonight’s shooting.
Miguel Almaguer, public information officer for the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, said a 911 call was made shortly after 5 p.m. regarding shots fired into a home. “Our deputies arrived on scene within minutes and were able to contact the author of the report. She exited the property.”
Police entered the home and found three people deceased. Almaguer said deputies are currently waiting for a search warrant that will allow them to investigate further.
Although the Marin County Sheriff and Coroner have not yet released the identities of the victims, Local Mission is informed that Kevin and Ann Mannix were among them.
Kevin Mannix retired as a sergeant at Taraval Station in 2018. Ann Mannix was the first woman to serve on the SFPD SWAT team and the first woman to lead it – she is, to date, the only woman to ever serve on the SFPD SWAT team. The fourth-generation San Franciscan became deputy chief in charge of special operations and retired in 2021.
“Please keep their family in your prayers,” Lew’s email read.
This is a developing story and more information will be released as it becomes available.
