The Trump administration’s rollback of fuel efficiency standards this week is a victory for consumers in the face of authoritarian government dictates designed to cajole the auto industry into producing electric vehicles, which are on average more expensive than gasoline-powered automobiles. At the same time, anyone who thinks this dooms the transition to more environmentally friendly cars is wrong.
