Robert Kelker-Kelly dead: ‘Days of Our Lives’ actor was 62
Robert Kelker-Kelly, who played Bo Brady on “Days of Our Lives,” died Saturday in St. Peters, Missouri. He was 62 years old.
The St. Peters Police Department said they responded to a report of an unconscious man who was not breathing. Police noted that he allegedly complained of chest pain shortly before losing consciousness, and that the circumstances appeared consistent with a medical event.
Kelker-Kelly began his acting career playing Sam Fowler on the soap opera “Another World” in 1987. In 1992, he joined “Days of Our Lives”, reprising the role of Peter Reckell. Kelker-Kelly played the character opposite Kristian Alfonso’s Hope Brady and Lisa Rinna’s Billie Reed before Reckell returned to the role in 1995.
In her memoir, “You Better Believe I’m Gonna Talk About It,” Rinna opened up about her rocky working relationship and on-screen love interests with Kelker-Kelly from 1992 to 1995. She said they didn’t get along in real life, even though they filmed together “every day, often half-naked.”
Rinna and Kelker-Kelly both joined the daytime show in 1992 and later won a Soap Opera Digest Award for Hottest Soap Couple in 1995. That same year, they both left their roles.
Two years later, in 1997, Kelker-Kelly married Miriam Parrish and left Los Angeles, abandoning his acting career. He obtained certification in airframe and powertrain mechanics. From 2002 to 2003, he was a theater teacher at Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter Public School in South Hadley, Massachusetts, before becoming a commercial pilot. He continued to teach and fly until his death.
He also played Stavros Cassadine on “General Hospital” in 2001, with guest spots in 2002, 2003, 2013 and 2014. Along with his television work, he has starred in several films and television films, including “Dream for an Insomniac”, “Winter Heat” and “Mr. Write”.
