Rockland man killed in possible road rage shooting on George Washington Bridge
NEW YORK CITY (WABC) — A 46-year-old Rockland County man was shot and killed on the George Washington Bridge in what investigators believe may have been a road rage attack, authorities said.
Surveillance video from the incident is being reviewed as police search for the shooter.
According to investigators, the victim was driving a Volkswagen Golf on a ramp leading to the upper west level of the George Washington Bridge when his vehicle nearly collided with another driver, sparking an argument. As the two vehicles continued on their way to New Jersey, an occupant of the other vehicle allegedly fired a shot, hitting the victim.
Lucy Yang is at Fort Lee with the latest on the investigation.
The victim’s vehicle continued westbound before coming to rest against the median near the middle of the bridge. He was transported to Englewood Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities identified the victim as Koran Irvine, a Con Edison employee who was off duty at the time of the shooting.
The other vehicle fled and police are continuing their search to find the person responsible.
The shooting sparked an hours-long investigation that forced the closure of the upper west level of the George Washington Bridge. All lanes reopened shortly before 1 a.m.
A ConEd spokesperson released the following statement:
“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of a member of the Con Edison family in this senseless act of violence. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, colleagues and all who knew and loved him.”
