Roseanne claims she lost control of her show before tweeting
Perhaps it’s no surprise that Roseanne Barr, the disgraced comedian who blew it for late-night, supposedly Ambien-fueled racism on Twitter, doesn’t do herself any favors in a typically unhinged interview with The Hollywood Reporter to promote his new self-financed series, Meemaw: a modern-day fable. The show follows the matriarch of a mixed-race family of doomsday preppers as she plans her granddaughter’s bat mitzvah. Explaining how much she loved making out with Randy Quaid, her love for the Teamsters, and where Lisa Marie ranked Michael Jackson in bed, Roseanne went off in as many directions as this brief plot summary. But perhaps the most telling, if equally unsurprising, admission is that she was already losing her show before its so-called cancellation.
To save, two months after the Roseanne The stimulus was renewed in 2018, Barr posted a racist tweet (she denies her racism) about Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett, insinuating that she was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood and comparing her to Planet of the Apes. Barr still believes, without evidence, that Jarrett is affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood and, according to this claim, THR interview, she “always called the Iranian government “Planet of the Apes.” Regardless, no one took it that way. The show’s head writer, Wanda Sykes, left the show, not only because of the tweet, but also because of the star’s behavior. Barr was fired and the series continued for several more seasons.
