US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called on Cubans seeking “positive change” to work with the CIA, the latest ploy in the Trump administration’s growing efforts to eliminate Cuba’s communist regime of power.

“To those seeking to create positive change in Cuba, now is the time,” Rubio wrote Friday on

Shortly afterward, the CIA republished Rubio’s message and a similar appeal in Spanish inviting Cubans to work with the agency. A video was posted alongside the post showing the steps needed to contact the intelligence agency.

A strict embargo and US sanctions aimed at putting pressure on Cuba The communist government led to skyrocketing prices of basic goods and decreased access to medical care for its citizens. Cubans reported waiting in line for hours in bread lines and others reported waiting in line to see a doctor.

Last week, the U.S. government announced additional economic sanctions against Cuba’s state-owned bank, saying the institution had ties to Iran.

President Trump told a campaign rally in South Florida on Friday that “we will take care of Cuba when we return from Iran.” He was referring to U.S. Navy warships deployed near the Strait of Hormuz.

Mr. Trump added: “These magnificent ships will pass through Cuba. We will have one stop about 50 yards from the coast. They will raise their hands, and then we will send Marco Rubio to seal the deal.”

The Cuban government reacted, and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla responded Friday on X by declaring: “We reject any threat arising from American ambitions towards Cuba.”

Rodriguez Parrilla added: “Our coasts are lined with beautiful beaches, but they are also rugged and inhospitable to those who arrive with hostile intentions and a desire for domination.”
