Rusty’s Ramblings – The latest news and insider scoops
The Georgia Bulldogs completed another week of preparation for the SEC game, with Vanderbilt coming to Athens on Saturday.
A few storylines worth monitoring as kickoff approaches, including the status of Jared Curtis, several injury situations and from Georgia recruiting efforts on the road Friday evening.
Is Jared Curtis playing?
Do Jared Curtis play?
I don’t think it matters much from a match perspective. Vanderbilt is not a good matchup for Georgia up front, and the Commodores have issues along the offensive line.
There’s definitely some intrigue here, with Curtis returning to town. The kid is a player and he will be what everyone thought he would be.
However, at the moment, Vanderbilt doesn’t have much around him and his offensive line has struggled.
Chase Linton trending towards a comeback?
Chase Linton entered the injury report Thursday night as questionable, and it caught my attention pretty quickly.
He was injured early in fall camp after a fast start at the Edge position.
I made a few calls, and sure enough, he gets a lot closer. I think he will at least be dressed and warming up on Saturday. I confirmed that he wore the red jersey on Wednesday.
Is he playing? I’m not sure.
But the fact that he’s so close is encouraging, especially with the possibility of him helping Georgia next week and against Alabama. From what I heard, I was targeting the Auburn game for his return.
Continue to watch the actions of Kemon Spell
I told you about it Kemon Spelland of course other teams are trying to recruit him. I would do the same thing.
So far, Spell has not said or done anything that would cause Georgia to be unduly concerned.
Observe his actions. That’s what matters most here.
Nate Frazier and Isaiah Canion still questionable
I still think Nate Frazier and Isiah Canion will be game-time decisions.
My hunch is that Canion is still out this week.
With Frazier, I think it will come down to pain tolerance and how he feels. I’m told Georgia was careful with him throughout the week.
We’ll see how both situations develop as Saturday gets closer.
Georgian coaches on the road
Georgia has a few coaches on the road Friday night, and we have confirmed at least a few of them.
Scott Tray will be at a busy game in Gwinnett, where Grayson hosts South Florida’s Miami Carol City.
Georgia linebacker commitment Temorris Campbell plays for Grayson and Georgia commits Waylon Wooten is also at school.
Georgia EDGE coach Larry Knight expected to be in Chicago to watch Edge’s 2028 five-star prospect Kameron McGee.
That tells you something about the level of interest when Knight is ready to take this trip. He’ll watch McGee play Friday night, then return to Athens in time for Saturday’s 12:45 p.m. kickoff.
Georgia is making an effort here.
It’s a long journey over the course of the season, and the staff is clearly working to evaluate and build the relationship with one of the top prospects in the 2028 class.
