Ryan Fitzpatrick on Bo Nix vs. Seahawks: ‘This effort is trash’

Comments Off on Ryan Fitzpatrick on Bo Nix vs. Seahawks: ‘This effort is trash’

Former NFL quarterback and Prime Video analyst Ryan Fitzpatrick had a harsh examination of Broncos quarterback Bo Nix’s play Thursday night against the Seattle Seahawks.

Although Denver won the game 17-14, Fitzpatrick said Nix “wasn’t playing competitively.”

The 17-year NFL veteran devoted more than a minute to Nix’s performance. The Broncos quarterback threw for just 107 yards on 17 completions, for a passer rating of 71.1. He barely pushed the ball downfield and looked like the quarterback who drew a lot of criticism in previous weeks.

Full comments from Fitzpatrick:

“Part of it for me is Bo Nix not playing competitively. It’s almost disrespectful to the quarterback position the way he’s playing football right now,” Fitzpatrick said.

“How does he play?” said host Charissa Thompson.

“First of all, the guy doesn’t want to throw the ball, that’s fine, he throws flat, he throws behind, but he has no confidence from his coach. He calls a screen play on third and eight, just runs and lets the clock continue. What does he do, he throws it, Seattle gets the ball, they have a timeout. Then in overtime he has two chances to be competitive, the last one being a run designed for him to run, make it miss someone and get a first down for your football team.

“Now they’re in the locker room right now, they’re excited, they won. He’s not playing competitive football right now…I can only imagine how Sean Payton, Davis Webb, everyone blocking for him feels, he’s not competing right now and it’s something he’s been holding on to for the last couple of years. I don’t know if he’s hurt yet, I don’t know what’s going on, but it’s not good enough. It’s an effort.”

When asked why Nix’s play frustrated Fitzpatrick, he replied, “There’s no fire and no passion.” » He said the Broncos quarterback took his NFL debut “for granted.”

“There’s a lot of guys who played this game, who watched this game and think ‘That’s rubbish. That effort is rubbish and that’s not an NFL quarterback and we deserve better,'” Fitzpatrick said.

After the game, Nix said the Broncos offense struggled to find explosive plays. He said the victory was the most important result of Thursday’s contest, but he also seemed frustrated by the offensive issues.

“I thought I saw the field really well, especially early on when we were given the opportunity to be aggressive. Then as the game went on, I kind of felt like only third downs were the key. Then every once in a while we had an opportunity to throw it deep again. Then they were in a short Cover-2 shell, covering him deep and we had runs with 10 yards of space,” Nix said. “So it’s just… I don’t understand why we can’t really push the ball vertically right now. Defenses are just hanging out there. We’re just going to keep making the football work. Hopefully you’ll have to find ways to get the most out of it.”
