Ryan Fitzpatrick rips Bo Nix for ‘almost disrespectful’ QB play, ‘won’t throw the ball’
The Denver Broncos improved to 4-2 with an overtime win over the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night, but Bo Nix’s play in six games this season has sparked plenty of frustration from fans and analysts.
After the Broncos’ 17-14 win over Seattle, Ryan Fitzpatrick said on the Prime Video postgame show that Nix’s play was “almost disrespectful” to the quarterback position.
When asked to elaborate on what he meant, Fitzpatrick said Nix “doesn’t want to throw the ball” because he only targets flats and receivers behind the sticks.
Nix has thrown for less than 200 yards four times in six games. He has 230 yards on 54 pass attempts over the last two games.
For perspective, Nix’s 4.3 yards per attempt over that span would be tied for 19th among all players in yards per rushing attempt this season.
The only quarterback this season with a lower yards per attempt average than Nix’s 5.6 is undrafted Atlanta Falcons rookie Jack Strand, who is at 3.9 on just 15 attempts.
If you want to give Nix the benefit of the doubt, the Broncos’ opponents so far include the Seahawks, Kansas City Chiefs, Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers.
These are five of the NFL’s 11 best defenses by EPA per game. Next week should provide some relief for Nix when the Broncos take on the Arizona Cardinals.
