Ryan Phillippe looks back on his ‘wild night’ with ex-wife Reese Witherspoon
Ryan Phillippe has revealed new details about his wife, Reese Witherspoon’s wild night at the 2006 Oscars.
“It was a crazy night because my wife at the time, Reese Witherspoon, also won best actress,” Phillippe recalled during her Wednesday appearance on “Live with Kelly and Mark.”
“While she was backstage giving her interviews after the awards show, they called best picture for ‘Crash’.”
“Morgan Freeman was the presenter for Best Picture and I had never met Morgan Freeman, so I fanned out on stage at the Oscars,” the actor continued.
“I’m like, ‘I’ve always wanted to meet you, sir,’ and it’s while the producer is accepting the award. It’s a pretty fun moment.”
The celebrations didn’t stop there, as Phillippe remembers partying “until probably 5 or 6 in the morning.”
“We had such a fun after-party,” he exclaimed.
At the 2006 Academy Awards, Witherspoon won Best Actress for her role as June Carter in “Walk The Line.”
The biographical drama, directed by James Mangold, follows Johnny Cash (Joaquin Phoenix) through his early life, his romance with Carter, his rise on the country music scene and his drug addiction.
Phillippe was part of the cast of “Crash,” which won Best Picture.
The crime film directed by Paul Haggis presents racial and social tensions in Los Angeles and is inspired by a real incident experienced by the director.
The cast also includes Sandra Bullock, Don Cheadle, Matt Dillon, Jennifer Esposito, William Fichtner, Brendan Fraser, Terrence Howard, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Thandiwe Newton and Michael Peña.
While it was a victorious night for Phillippe and Witherspoon, the “Legally Blonde” actress filed for divorce a few months later. They finalized their separation in 2008.
During their marriage, the duo welcomed daughter Ava, now 27, and son Deacon, now 22, in 1999 and 2003, respectively.
The exes have pulled together when it comes to co-parenting over the years, most recently reuniting for their son’s graduation from New York University in May.
In photos obtained by Page Six at the time, the former couple were all smiles as they posed for photos with the graduate.
