Sacramento County hit-and-run victim identified by CHP
ROSEMONT, California. —
The body of a man found in Sacramento County last week has been identified as a hit-and-run victim following an investigation, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP identified the man as William Allen Spears, Jr., 48, of Sacramento. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Sacramento Metro Fire Department.
“My father died when I was very young, and William stepped in and took care of the family,” said Candace Roberts, Spears’ sister. “He became a construction worker and became the man of the house when I was born.”
Roberts is one of five siblings and Spears was the eldest.
“How could anyone actually see what was happening? All these people passing by were all going home. They all went home that night. Not my brother,” Roberts said.
CHP said a vehicle struck a pedestrian on Oct. 8 around 10:30 p.m. on Folsom Boulevard, west of Norcade Circle in the Rosemont neighborhood.
“Nobody stopped on the road. This community, this road is so dark,” Roberts said.
The pedestrian was on the roadway outside a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle.
The CHP said the driver did not stop after the crash or report it to law enforcement and left the scene. The suspect vehicle and its driver have not yet been identified.
“I hope they find out who did this because the way you killed my brother, the way you murdered him, he didn’t deserve this,” Roberts said.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information that could lead to the identity of the suspected driver or vehicle is asked to contact the CHP East Sacramento Regional Office. The East Sacramento office can be reached by email at 260POP@chp.ca.gov.
